    Charlotte Tops Tulane, 2-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte scored two first-half goals on their way to a 2-0 victory over Tulane on Friday, Oct. 13. Sophomore Jennie Leeder returned from injury and found the back of the net on a crossing pass from Dawn Geyer at the 21:17 mark. Geyer had received a forward ball from the back midfield from freshman Lindsay Duncan prior to passing the ball to Leeder. A little over ten minutes later, at 32:38, Duncan again passed the ball forward, this time to senior Meredith Mayo, who fed the ball down the left-hand side of the box to Laura Lockwood, who chipped the ball in the upper left-hand corner of the goal frame over the outstretched arms of Tulane keeper Jaclyn Urso.

Charlotte's starting goalkeeper, sophomore Jennifer Howell, was injured at the 10:43 mark when she dove for a ball among several players near the goalline. Backup keeper Andrea Kollmorgen came on in relief and kept the shutout intact the final 79:17, in her second ever collegiate appearance. Both keepers combined for zero saves on three Tulane shots.

"I'm pleased with our efforts tonight," said head coach Neil Roberts. "We were very opportunistic on our scoring chances and were able to hang on despite a well-played second half by Tulane. After Jenn (Howell) went down, our backline stepped up and was able to maintain the shutout."

The victory improves the 49ers' record to 8-6-1, 5-1-1 in Conference USA. Tulane falls to 6-7, 3-4 on the season.

Bearcats Strike For Pair Of Second Half Goals To Beat UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Reserves Tasha Wagner and Amanda Onnen each collected a goal in the second half to lift Cincinnati to a 2-1 Conference USA women's soccer victory over UAB here Friday night at West Campus Field.

The Bearcats (10-5-0 overall, 6-2-0 in C-USA) won for the third straight time while the Blazers fell to 2-10-2 and 1-6-1.

Denise Peters, the reigning C-USA Offensive Player of the Week, scored her third goal in her last two matches by recorded the Blazers' lone goal of the game at the 22:20 mark. Peters struck a nice cross from Katja Lerew past the UC keeper for the game's first score.

The game remained that way for 40 minutes, before Wagner struck paydirt five yards in front of the goal at 62:41. The Bearcats added the game winner at 75:25 on a header by Onnen. That goal was setup by nice entry pass from Krsitina Wilson.

    Memphis Defeats Louisville, 6-2

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis womens soccer team hosted the University of Louisville on Friday in an important conference matchup at Echles field.

The Lady Tigers came out fast and furious, scoring on a penalty kick by freshman midfielder Anja Nielson in the second minute of the game after senior wing Tori Winslett was taken down in the box. Fifty-one seconds later, freshman striker Jessica Gjertsen tallied the first of her two goals off of a pass from senior striker Candice Spiniolas.

    Marquette Shuts Down Houston, 4-0

MILWAUKEE -- The 24th ranked Marquette women1s soccer team put forth a huge offensive performance in defeating Houston, 4-0, at Valley Fields. Marquette remains atop the Conference USA standings at 7-0 (13-2 overall); Houston slips to 2-5-1 in C-USA play and 6-8-1 overall.

Marquette wasted little time to take the lead. In the ninth minute of the match, sophomore Ashley Spakowitz (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) tracked down a misplayed ball back toward the goal and faced Houston goal keeper Robin Cate one-on-one. Spakowitz put the ball past Cate for the easy goal and the 1-0 lead.

In the 19th minute, sophomore Kate Gordon (Sioux City, Iowa/North) scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season off of a free kick from freshman Kristen Jensen (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka). Jensen1s free kick from the right side found the head of Gordon who placed a 14-yard attack past Cate.

"The second goal was brilliant off of the free kick," Marquette head coach Markus Roeders said. "The first goal set the tone for the match."

The Golden Eagles added a pair of goals in the second half for the final margin. Freshman Carolyn Klopp (Glendale, Wis/Divine Savior-Holy Angels) scored her fourth in the 59th minute and senior Melissa Moffatt (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) scored her first of the season in the 83rd minute on a blast from 30 yards.

"I thought overall we played a very good game," Roeders added. "Houston has a different style of play. They are more direct, but we created our chances. We absorbed most of their pressure, didn1t give up many opportunities and had several of our own."

Southern Miss Edges South Florida Women's Soccer, 2-1, In Double Overtime

TAMPA, Fla. -- Southern Miss slipped by the South Florida women's soccer team with a 2-1, double-overtime decision Friday night at the USF Soccer Stadium.

The Golden Eagles' Tricia Wiles opened the scoring in the 12th minute, redirecting a shot first deflected by Bulls' goalkeeper Valerie Wetzel (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee).

South Florida's Danielle Aldrich (Clearwater, Fla./Countryside) put an end to a lengthy scoreless period after getting the better of an Aleia Long (Ormond Beach, Fla./ Seabreeze) shot, bringing the score to a 1-1 tie.

That tie would endure one overtime period before being snapped shortly into the second by Southern Miss's Khara Maddix.
