    OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
    Julie Thompson, Marquette

    Junior, Midfielder, Naperville, Ill.
Thompson tallied the game-winning goal in a 1-0 overtime win at Saint Louis Saturday. Her game-winner secured the third seed for the Golden Eagles at the upcoming league tournament. The goal was Thompson’s fourth of the season as she logged 198 minutes in a pair of matches last week.

    Co-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
    Katie Bissen, Marquette

    Senior, Goalkeeper, Maple Grove, Minn.
Bissen stopped 11 Billiken attempts on goal as Marquette handed Saint Louis its first loss of the season. The 1-0 shutout was Bissen’s seventh of the season. The senior also made a pair of saves in a 1-0 loss to Big Ten foe Wisconsin.

    Leanne McGee, Memphis
    Senior, Defender, North Shields, England
McGee’s solid play at sweeper helped limit Cincinnati to just seven shots in the Tigers’ 1-0 overtime victory over the Bearcats. The shutout was the seventh posted by the Tigers this season. McGee also assisted on the game-winning goal that punched the Tigers’ ticket to the upcoming league tournament.

    NEWS & NOTES
    Tournament Time
    – Having won its first regular-season title since 1999, host Saint Louis (13-5-1, 9-1-0) earned the top seed in the 2004 Marriott C-USA Women's Soccer Tournament to be held Nov. 3-6 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Eight of the 14 C-USA teams advance to the league tournament, which begins Wednesday with first round matches at noon, 2:30 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The semifinals are Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the final set for Saturday at 1 p.m. (CST). The final will be aired on the Conference USA Television Network. Don Russell will call the play-by-play, and Bill McDermott provides the color commentary.

More Streaking – Both East Carolina and UAB will ride five- and four-match win streaks, respectively, into the 2004 Marriott C-USA Women’s Soccer Tournament. Marquette is also on a five-match win streak in conference games after playing spoiler to a 9-0 Saint Louis team on Saturday.

Century Club – TCU senior Jessi Moore scored two goals in the Horned Frogs’ 3-3 tie with Louisville on Saturday afternoon. She finishes her career with 103 career points, scoring 35 goals and tallying 33 assists. Saint Louis senior Jamie Perry surpassed the 100-point plateau last week. She enters the C-USA Tournament with 104 career points and 41 career goals.

Sophomore Shannon’s Shutouts – Charlotte sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Huffman recorded her fourth straight shutout in a 2-0 road victory against Houston on Friday night. The shutout was her fifth this season and ninth of her career (already third in school history). Huffman’s recent goal defense has been a key reason Charlotte earned the No. 6 seed in the 2004 C-USA Tournament. The 49ers have rallied from an 0-7 start to the season.

What A Decade – Charlotte and Marquette, who will face each other in the first round of the C-USA Tournament, are the only two conference schools to qualify for all 10 postseason tournaments in the history of the league.

Victory Record – Memphis posted its first winning season since 1997 and tied the school record for most victories in a season (11) with a 1-0 win against Cincinnati on Friday. The Tigers face UAB in the first round of the C-USA Tournament.

Senior Days – USF held the final senior day of the season when the Bulls hosted Cincinnati on Halloween – a make-up date from a Sept. 26 match that was postponed due to Hurricane Jeanne. USF won the match, 1-0. East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Tulane and UAB all posted wins during their weekend home finales, while Louisville played TCU to a 3-3 double overtime match in the Cards’ final home game.

Another Tip of the Hat – UAB senior Liz Bosscher made the most of her Senior Day, recording her first career hat trick and her first three goals of the 2004 regular season in a 7-2 victory against DePaul. Senior teammate Tara Kidwell, the conference’s leading scorer, has three hat tricks this season.

So Close – Tulane junior keeper Megan Morey registered her fifth shutout of the season when the Green Wave defeated Southern Miss, 1-0, in its season finale. It was the tenth shutout of her career and she will enter her senior campaign in second place on the school’s all-time list, just 2.5 shutouts behind school record holder Jaclyn Urso.

Pirated Goals – East Carolina’s Meghan McCallion scored both goals in a 2-1 victory against USF on Friday. The victory moved the Pirates into a No. 4 seed in the 2004 Marriott C-USA Women’s Soccer Tournament. ECU actually tied Louisville, its first-round opponent, in points. However, McCallion scored the game-winning goal against U of L in a 3-2 double overtime win on Oct. 24.
