Women's Soccer Championship Recap - Day One

    The Conference USA Women's Soccer Tournament is underway at Transamerica Field in Charlotte. For the first time in tourney history, three contests went to double overtime and two were decided on penalty kicks in opening-round action.

    The four semifinal teams have been set for Thursday's matches. The first match will have DePaul taking on Tulane at 5 p.m. The Blue Demons, the No. 6 seed, upset Marquette, the No. 3 seed, 2-1 in double overtime in Wednesday's first game. The seventh-seeded Green Wave advanced 3-1 on penalty kicks over second-seeded Horned Frog in the second game. Saint Louis moved into the semifinals by defeating USF, 2-0, in the first match of the evening session. Top-seeded UAB also advanced on penalty kicks, 3-0, to oust Charlotte, the No. 8 seed, from the tournament.


    Game 4

    For the second time on Wednesday, a Conference USA Women’s Soccer Tournament contest was decided on penalty kicks. UAB (13-4-1) converted three penalty kicks against Charlotte (7-11-2) in the extra session to advance to the semifinal round against Saint Louis, the fifth seed, on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.


    Game 3

    Fifth-seeded Saint Louis scored a pair of goals in the closing minutes to post a 2-0 victory over fourth-seeded USF in the first match of the evening session of the 2003 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Tournament at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field. The Billikens improve to 13-5-2, while USF concludes its year with an 8-8-2 mark.


    Game 2

    Seventh-seeded Tulane (11-6-2) and second-seeded TCU (9-8-2) battled to a scoreless tie with the Green Wave prevailing 3-1 on penalty kicks to advance to the semifinals of the Conference USA Women’s Soccer Tournament at Charlotte’s Transamerica Field.


    Game 1

    Erin Walter’s fourth goal of the year proved to be the deciding score in DePaul’s 2-1 double-overtime victory over Marquette (11-8-1) in the opening game of the 2003 Conference USA Women’s Soccer Tournament. The Blue Demons improve to 13-6-1 on the season.
