IRVING, Texas - Rice and UCF produced two selections apiece to the 2007 Conference USA All-Academic Team. The All-Academic Team consists of 11 student-athletes that have earned a 3.2 cumulative GPA or better and are a starter or a key reserve on the women's soccer team. East Carolina, Houston, Marshall, Memphis, SMU, Tulsa and UTEP had one student-athlete chosen. The squad is comprised of six seniors, four juniors and a sophomore. On the field, five defenders, three midfielders, two goalkeepers and a forward are represented. Rice senior Beth Martin, who has a 3.59 grade point average as a political science major, was named to the squad after earning honorable mention honors last season, while fellow defender, sophomore Katelyn Ostendorf, who has a 4.13 GPA as a biochemistry major, earned her first honor. A pair of seniors, midfielder Kate Begley and goalkeeper Jennifer Manis, represented UCF. Begley has a 3.88 GPA in education and Manis, who was a C-USA's Defensive Player of the Year, has a 3.68 GPA in biology and earns her second all-academic honor from the conference. Marshall's Erin Johnson was also a repeat selection to the All-Academic Team with a 3.91 GPA in pre-med. A midfielder, Johnson was a team captain in 2007. UTEP senior Jami Tullius, the 2007 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year, has maintained a 3.89 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. She led the league in scoring during the regular season and became the first Miner to score 100 points during her career. SMU senior Kimber Bailey has a 3.876 GPA in chemistry and has excelled on the field with 40 goals and 17 assists in her career and was an All-Conference USA second-team pick this season. Tulsa senior defender Allison Dodd started for three years and maintained a 3.82 GPA as a history major and helped TU post three shutouts on the season. An honorable mention pick last season, Memphis junior Kate Murphy earns all-academic honors this year with a 4.00 GPA in international business with minors in political science and Spanish. East Carolina's Nicole Moore helped the Pirates post 11 shutouts on the season, while maintaining a 4.00 GPA in exercise physiology with a minor in nutrition. A defender, Moore was an honorable mention pick last year. With a 3.93 GPA in psychology, Houston goalkeeper Shelby Scott, who set the school record with 122 saves, earned her first selection to the team.
