EL PASO, Texas - In match three of the 2007 Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship at University Field on the campus of UTEP Wednesday evening, No. 2 Memphis defeated No. 7 Southern Miss, 6-0. The Tigers scored three goals in the first half and never looked back to advance to Friday' second semifinal match. The six goals tied the championship record set by Marquette also against Southern Miss in 1999.

Junior forward Kylie Hayes registered a hat trick in the win, which ties the record for most goals by an individual in a single championship game. The Piqua, Ohio native notched six points, which also tied the single-game championship record for points. Hayes now has 11 goals on the season.

Midfielder Emiko Schwab got the Tigers on the board first when she scored on a header off of a corner kick from Caroline Barrett nine minutes into the game.

Hayes increased the Memphis lead when she put one past the Golden Eagle keeper for her first goal of the contest in the 16th minute. Schwab and Barrett both assisted on the score.

The final Tiger goal of the half was scored by forward Krista Turner in the 35th minute when she put in a rebound off of Hurami Someya's blocked shot.

U of M dominated the shots in the first half, 15-4, and also had the advantage on corner kicks, 5-3.

Memphis got the scoring going again just two minutes into the second half when Hayes scored again on a loose ball that she hammered home into the back of the net.

The Tigers extended their lead to 5-0 on an Ashley Berra goal from Brittany Baldwin. Berra took a cross from Baldwin and sent it past the keeper.

Hayes then recorded her hat trick and Memphis' sixth goal in the 62nd minute when her shot deflected in off of a free kick from Barrett. The goal was the 37th of Hayes' career, which extends her Memphis career record. Hayes now has 88 career points, just six shy of the career record.

For the game, the Tigers tallied seven assists and 19 points, both championship records for a single game. They also out-shot the Golden Eagles 24-6.

U of M improves to 15-3-1 with the win. The 15 wins tie the school single-season record. Southern Miss concludes its regular season at 8-11-0. The Tigers will play the winner of Wednesday's final game in Friday's second semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. MST.
