DePaul to Face Purdue in NCAA Women's Soccer

    The DePaul women’s soccer team will take the short trip south to Champaign, Ill. for the first NCAA College Cup match in the program’s eight-year history. The Blue Demons will take on the Purdue Boilermakers while host Illinois plays Western Michigan. DePaul and Purdue play at 4 p.m. on Friday followed by Illinois and Western Michigan at 7:30 p.m. Sunday's match between teh winners is slated for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

    The club advanced to the tournament with their Conference USA Tournament Championship on Saturday. With the shootout win over Saint Louis, the Blue Demons earned Conference USA’s automatic bid. DePaul was the only league program among the 64 teams selected.

    The Blue Demons and Boilermakers have met four times with Purdue winning all four meetings. In the last meeting in 2001, DePaul posted a 2-0 decision at Wish Field. DePaul has never played Western Michigan or Illinois. The winner of the Champaign regional will take the winner of the North Carolina regional. The No. 1 seed Tar Heels host High Point, UNC Greensboro and Wake Forest. The third round will be the weekend of Nov. 21.

    DePaul is one of 10 first-time teams in the Women’s College Cup joining High Point, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago, Oklahoma State, Stephen F. Austin, Navy, Western Michigan, Colorado and Oklahoma.

    The state of Illinois also produced five NCAA tournament programs with DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Illinois State and Loyola-Chicago earning tourney bids.
