Quartet of SLU Women's Soccer Players honored by NSCAA

Meghann Burke

ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University saw four women's soccer players honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) today. Senior goalkeeper Meghann Burke was named to the All-Central Region First Team, while senior Jenny Kehl and sophomore Jamie Perry earned spots on the second team. Freshman midfielder Christie Cigno was named to the NSCAA's High School All-America team for her efforts at state champion St. Joseph's last spring.

Burke led Conference USA with a school-record 12 shutouts while toting a 0.73 goals against average en route to C-USA Defensive Player of the Year honors. Her goals against average ranks 24th in the nation. A three-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Week selection, her final shutout came at the expense of the league's second-seeded team, Cincinnati, as the Billikens ended the Bearcats' 23-game C-USA regular-season unbeaten streak. Burke owns every SLU career goalkeeping record with a 0.92 goals against average, 48 victories, 38 shutouts and 347 saves.

Kehl earned her third-straight first-team All-Conference selection after leading C-USA with a school-record tying 12 assists. Ranking 15th in the nation in assists per game, her 22 points were among the league's top 10. Kehl set the school record with 34 career assists and matched the program's best mark with 78 career points. Her 22 career goals ranks third in school history.

Perry earned first-team All-Conference honors this season after a C-USA Freshman of the Year campaign last year. With 29 points (13G, 3A), she set the school record for points and goals in a season. The third-leading scorer in C-USA, Perry collected seven of her 13 goals in league play.

Cigno was honored by the NSCAA for her high school season, but also enjoyed a solid freshman campaign with the Billikens. Prior to becoming SLU's second-leading scorer with 22 points (9G, 4A), Cigno led her St. Joseph's team to its third state championship in four years. Ending the season ranked No. 1 in the country, St. Joseph's got a hat trick from Cigno in the title game. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Year and a first-team All-Metro and All-State selection, Cigno was selected to play in the inaugural McDonald's All-America High School Soccer game last summer.

The Billikens completed their season with a 13-6-1 overall record and finished third in Conference USA with a 6-3-1 league mark.
