Cincinnati Women's Soccer Nets Three On All-Region Team
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Three Cincinnati's women's soccer players have been named to the Great Lakes All-Region Team. Senior Heather Herweh was named first-team all-Great Lakes by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America while senior Amy Simonson and junior Tasha Wagner were named to the second-team.
Herweh anchored the No. 10 ranked Bearcat defense which posted a 0.60 goals against average. The senior defender contributed at the offensive end as well, scoring one goal and adding an assist on the 2002 campaign. Herweh was also named first-team all-C-USA this season.
Simonson led UC in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. The second-team all-C-USA honoree netted six game-winning goals, including one in a victory over Kentucky in first round of the NCAA Tournament. The senior forward leaves the Bearcats tied for eighth on the career lists for goals (23) and points (62).
Wagner was second on the team in scoring with 18 points, scoring four goals and dishing out a team-leading 10 assists. Only a junior, Wagner is climbing the career assists list at UC. She is currently fifth with 19 assists and needs to match this season's total of 10 to share the career mark of 29.
The Bearcats finished the season with an overall record of 17-4-3 and a 6-1-3 mark in Confernce USA. UC won the C-USA Tournament and knocked off
Kentucky, 1-0, in the NCAA Tournament before bowing out 2-1 to No. 11 Tennessee.
