Feb. 18 Softball Players of the Week

Louisville senior Jessica Rak has earned Conference USA Softball Pitcher of the Week honors, while the Hitter of the Week went to Charlotte junior third baseman Leah Heston. U of L posted a pair of wins at the Pepsi Challenge this past weekend, while the 49ers opened their season with five wins at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, N.C.

HITTER OF THE WEEK
LEAH HESTON, CHARLOTTE
Senior, 3B, Ankeny, Iowa
Heston helped the 49ers to five wins at the Triangle Classic in Durham, N.C. this past weekend. She batted .524 (11-for-21), hitting safely in all seven games. Heston registered four doubles, scored four runs and drove in five. She went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the consolation game of the silver bracket, a win over UNC Wilmington.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
JESSICA RAK, LOUISVILLE
Junior, RHP, Arvada, Colo.
Rak earned a pair of wins at the Arizona Pepsi Challenge in Tucson, Ariz. this past weekend. She threw a complete game shutout against New Mexico State on February 15, allowing just one hit while striking out three with no walks. Rak then picked up the school’s first win over a ranked team in nearly two seasons with a complete game victory over No. 14 Notre Dame. She did not allow an earned run against the Fighting Irish, striking out four.
