    HITTER OF THE WEEK
    KRISTEN GLOWACZ, HOUSTON
    Sophomore, 3B, Katy, Texas
    Glowacz led the Cougars to a 7-0 week, which included five Conference USA victories, by batting .550 (11-for-20). She hit three doubles, two home runs and drove in four runs. Glowacz scored four times and added four walks, reaching base at least once in six of the seven games.

    CO-PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
    LINDSAY CHOUINARD, DE PAUL
    Senior, LHP, Fresno, Calif.
    Chouinard was named to the All-Tournament team at the Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Classic after posting three wins and a save. Highlighting her wins was a shutout over No. 1 UCLA. In 23 innings pitched on the week, Chouinard struck out 21, while walking one and allowing just two earned runs.

    AJA SHERMAN, LOUISVILLE
    Sophomore, RHP, Las Vegas, Nev.
    Sherman threw her first career no-hitter in the Cardinals' 8-0 win over Ohio University on Saturday, striking out six and walking just one. Earlier in the week, she struck out seven and walked none without allowing an earned run in a 5-1 win at Morehead State.

    BIG WIN FOR BLUE DEMONS
    Conference USA posted its first-ever softball win over a No. 1 team on Sunday as DePaul defeated top-ranked UCLA, 1-0, ending the Bruins 24-game winning streak. Softball becomes the fourth sport in which a league team has defeated the top-ranked team in the nation since the inception of Conference USA in 1995, joining Men's Basketball, Baseball and Men's Soccer. The victory was the Blue demons second over a Top 10 team this season. Overall, C-USA teams have five wins over Top 10 opponents in 2003.

    Four different Conference USA teams have combined to post five wins over Top 20 teams, including four victories over top 10 squads. Last season, C-USA defeated six nationally-ranked non-conference foes, but just one was ranked in the Top 10 at the time: Here's a look at this season's ranked wins:

    LOUISVILLE'S SHERMAN NO-HITS OHIO
    Louisville's AJA SHERMAN posted the first no-hitter in Conference USA this season when she no-hit Ohio University on Saturday. It was the first no-hitter for a Louisville pitcher since Tara McClure accomplished the feat against Marshall on April 4, 2001. Ohio had not been no-hit since March 25, 1999.





    AROUND THE HORN

    CHARLOTTE (9-7, 0-0 in 2003): Charlotte went 1-3 at the 49er Invitational this past weekend, posting a 4-3 win over Liberty, but dropping games to Virginia, Akron and Wright State. Newcomer SAM MOORE leads the 49ers with a .353 batting average and a team-high 14 RBI on the season. Moore is a sophomore this season after playing at Bowling Green last year. Charlotte will pay in-state rival North Carolina on Thursday before opening its conference season with a doubleheader at East Carolina on Saturday.

    DE PAUL (10-3, 0-0 in 2003): The Blue Demons won the Hedrick's Hallowell Chevrolet Tournament Championship in Fresno, California over the weekend, highlighted by a 1-0 victory over No. 1 UCLA on Sunday. DePaul also posted wins over Fresno State, BYU and Cal Poly in the tournament. SARAH MARTZ went 6-for-16 in the tournament with a double, a triple and three RBI. She also picked up a pitching victory against Cal Poly. Martz leads the team in batting at .415 and is 4-1 on the mound. Opponents are batting just .174 against Blue Demon pitchers through the first 13 games of the season.

    EAST CAROLINA (12-8, 0-3 in 2003): The Pirates went 2-2 at the Hampton Inn Cougar Invitational in Charleston, S.C. this past weekend. After the first day's games were postponed due to rain, ECU lost its first game on Saturday to Northern Illinois, 5-2, but bounced back with victories over Brown (8-3) and Toledo (4-2). The Pirates closed out the tournament dropping a 2-0 decision to Jacksonville State.

    HOUSTON (17-10, 5-0 in 2003): The Cougars have increased their winning streak to seven games after taking a doubleheader from Saint Louis on Sunday. Those wins gave Houston a 5-0 record in conference play. The three-game sweep of Southern Miss on March 5-6 marked the first conference series sweep in school history. In five appearances last week, JENNY JOHNSON was 3-0 with one save. She recorded back-to-back shutouts over Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss and allowed just one run in 21 innings pitched. JAMIE FALCO has won six consecutive games to raise her record to 8-3 on the season. C-USA Hitter of the Week KRISTEN GLOWACZ is batting .359 on the season with a league-leading six home runs and 22 RBI.

    LOUISVILLE (6-7, 0-0 in 2003): The Cardinals were 5-1 last week, posting three shutout victories. In addition to AJA SHERMAN's no-hitter over Ohio University, KRYSTLE HEROLD shutout Bowling Green and JESSICA RAK blanked Illinois State. Louisville won the games that Herold and Rak pitched in despite an offense that produced just one hit against Illinois State and two vs. Bowling Green. SARA BAUSHER was the Cards bright spot offensively last week, batting .500 (10-for-20) with four doubles and a home run to finish with a .850 slugging percentage. She scored five runs and drove in seven. Bausher has a team-high 13 RBI on the season and also leads the squad in batting (.372) and doubles (5).



    SAINT LOUIS (0-2, 0-2 in 2003): After 15 consecutive cancellations, the Billikens finally opened the 2003 season on Sunday, dropping a pair of games at Houston. In game one, senior NICOLE BOHNENSTIEHL retired the first 13 batters she faced before allowing a fifth inning home run. The Billikens offense mustered just two hits in a 2-1 loss in eight innings. SLU will close out three game series at Houston on Monday night.

    SOUTH FLORIDA (24-7, 3-0 in 2003): The Bulls extended their winning streak to 17 games before dropping a 1-0 decision to No. 11 Stanford in 11 innings on March 7. In six games at the Speedline Tournament last week, RENEE OURSLER was 9-for-17 with a double and a home run. She had one of USF's two hits against Canadian National team player Lauren Bay of Oklahoma State. HOLLY GROVES hit three home runs in the tournament, including two on Saturday, to give her five on the season. CARMELA LIWAG and CHRISTIE CHAPMAN each hit the first home runs of their career last week. LEIGH ANN ELLIS allowed just one earned run in 30 innings, including pitchers duels against Stanford and Oklahoma State.

    SOUTHERN MISS (7-14, 0-3 in 2003): The Golden Eagles are struggling with an eight-game losing streak. They encountered their first conference loss by the eight-run rule after five innings against Houston, when the Cougars defeated them, 9-1 last week. Also, Houston became just the second C-USA team to sweep Southern Miss in a league series. DePaul was the first team to go 3-0 against the Golden Eagles, last season. SARAH BOYD performed well last week, batting 5-13 (.385) with a run scored, two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. She leads the team on the season, batting .345 with five doubles, two home runs. 12 RBIs and a .545 slugging percentage.

    UAB (13-7, 0-0 in 2003): After dropping a 1-0 game to Samford in the opening game of the Magic City Classic, the Blazers won their final three games of the tournament. The Blazers landed six players on the all-tournament team. In the infield, UAB manned four spots on the team with pitcher KELLI THOMPSON, catcher AMANDA ELLIS, second baseman BETH MULLINS and third baseman ALEXIS KRESKE. CLIFFANIE ENGRAM took the left field position and SARA CHRISTOPHEL landed the center field position on the Magic City Classic All-Tournament Team. Ellis was the team's top hitter in the tournament, going 6-for-10 with two doubles, two triples and four RBI. She also drew three walks, stole two bases and scored four times. Thompson picked up a pair of wins to raise her season record to 4-2. She allowed just one earned run in 8 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking two.
