May 2 Softball Players of the Week

Southern Miss 1B Ashley Davis earned this week's C-USA Hitter of the Week honor after belting two home runs and driving in eight runs in a clutch series win on the road at UAB. The Golden Eagles broke a tie for sixth-place in the league standings with the Blazers and now hold a one-game lead for the sixth and final spot in the league tournament. In the circle, a pair of sophomores turned in outstanding performances to share this week's Pitcher of the Week honor. East Carolina's Keli Harrell earned the victory in all three games of a series sweep for the Pirates over Charlotte, while DePaul's Megan Huitink tossed back-to-back shutouts and picked up a save in the Blue Demons' 5-0 week.

Hitter of the Week
Ashley Davis, Southern Miss
Jr., 1B, Chessapeake City, Md.
Davis went 6-for-13 at the plate in a crucial series victory for Southern Miss over UAB this past weekend. The junior belted a home run in each of the Golden Eagles’ wins on Saturday and also drove in eight runs in the series. Davis equaled her career high with four RBI in game two of Saturday’s doubleheader. It was the third time Davis has driven in four runs in a game this season.

Co-Pitchers of the Week
Keli Harrell, East Carolina
So., RHP, Greenville, N.C.
Harrell pulled off the trifecta in the Pirates’ series sweep of Charlotte as she earned the win in all three games. The sophomore one-hit the 49ers in Sunday’s series finale and finished the weekend with a 0.38 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work. Harrell became the first Pirate in school history to log 300 strikeouts in a season during the series.

Megan Huitink, DePaul
So., LHP, Elk Grove Village, Ill.
Huitink became the first Blue Demon since 2003 to toss back-to-back shutouts with her game one three-hitter in the USF series. The sophomore posted her first shutout of the week in a mid-week contest against Valparaiso. Huitink fanned 14 batters in 15 innings of work last week and picked up the save in the series finale against the Bulls.
