USF's Ellis Selected to 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 9, 2003) – The No. 19 University of South Florida softball team’s Leigh Ann Ellis (Barboursville, W. Va.) has been selected to attend the 2003 NCAA Leadership Conference, May 25-29, at the Coronado Springs Resort and Walt Disney World Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla.
Ellis was selected to attend the conference based on her: (1) good academic standing, (2) demonstrated ability and strong desire to be a leader and her potential to benefit significantly from a leadership development experience, and (3) at least one year of athletics eligibility remaining in the following academic year.
Made up of NCAA student-athletes identified as leaders on their campuses and in their communities, the seventh-annual conference is one of the largest non-competitive gatherings of NCAA student-athletes who compete in fall, winter and spring sports in Divisions I, II and III. The conference will serve as a forum for discussion of key student-athlete welfare issues while also providing the opportunity to enhance leadership skills.
Upon returning from the conference, Ellis will share her experiences and topic discussions with USF’s student-athlete advisory committee and will implement a strategic plan – made while at the conference - to address or solve an issue on campus or in the community.
Ellis is currently leading USF’s charge to capture its first Conference USA Tournament Championship (May 8-10 in Houston, Texas) and was named one of two first-team all-conference pitchers on Wednesday.
