The DePaul Blue Demons clinched their second consecutive C-USA Tournament title, defeating the second-seeded South Florida Bulls, 7-0, in the championship game of the C-USA Softball Tournament at the Cougar Softball Stadium on Saturday. DePaul improves to 46-5-1 on the season and earns the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
DePaul got on the board in the bottom of the first when Lindsay Chouinard notched a single scoring Sarah Martz and Liz Bouck.
The Blue Demons extended its lead after Bouck opened the third inning with a single. Saskia Roberson recorded her second home run of the tournament to give DePaul a 4-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Chouinard led off with a single. She would advance to second when Katy Kukman reached first off an error. They would score off a double from Gina Ramacci. She then was sent home on a Dana Kenney ground out.
Chouinard was named Tournament MVP, completing the game with four strikeouts and giving up only five hits. She would finish the day, batting 2-for-3 with two RBI.
USFs Leigh Ann Ellis also earned All-Tournament honors, giving up five earned runs. She falls to 33-9 on the season.
