IRVING, Texas - Six swimming and diving student-athletes were named to the 2006-07 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office today. SMU had two members on the team, while East Carolina, Houston, Marshall and Rice all placed one representative on the inaugural squad. The all-academic team consists of six student-athletes that have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and have competed in 75 percent of their team's scheduled meets.

Three sophomores, two seniors and a junior make up the 2006-07 All-Academic swimming and diving team. All six members had impressive showings at the 2007 C-USA Swimming and Diving Championship held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on the campus of the University of Houston in February.

SMU teammates Celina Lemmen and Jenny Basel were named to the all-academic team after leading SMU to a 14th place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championship and a first-place finish at the C-USA Championship. Lemmen, a senior management major, has a 3.76 GPA and is coming off a solid performance at the NCAAs. The San Antonio native garnered All-America status in the 800 free relay in 2007 and finished her career winning All-America honors all four years as a Mustangs. Basel was an All-America in 2006 and carries the highest GPA on the all-academic team. The sophomore is a mathematics major with a minor in mechanical engineering and carries a 3.98 GPA.

Houston placed senior Szintia Szanto on this year's list. Szanto is a three-time Academic Medal and C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient. Her 3.89 GPA in communications/advertising is the highest on the Houston team. She was also a four-time All-Conference USA second team honoree at the 2007 C-USA Championship and was named Swimmer of the Week twice (Oct. 17, Jan. 23) this season.

East Carolina's Kim Brewer is the lone junior on the squad. Brewer has earned Dean's List and Chancellor's List honors in her three-year career and posted the fastest 500, 1,000 and 1,650-free times of her career at the C-USA Championship in February. The North Carolina native holds a 3.63 GPA in finance.

Two sophomores finalize the six-member all-academic team. Marshall's Camilla Overup and Rice's Diane Gu are both psychology majors. Overup also minors in biological sciences and has a 3.76 GPA. The native of Denmark has been named to the Dean's List all three semesters she has been at Marshall and set a season-best time 100-yard backstroke, in addition to nabbing three second place finishes throughout the season. Gu carries a 3.57 GPA and is a two-time member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Originally from Florida, Gu earned multiple second team all-conference honors in 2007 and was named C-USA Swimmer of the Week on Nov. 8.
