IRVING, Texas - No. 10 SMU beat both North Texas and Wyoming Friday in a double dual meet. The Mustangs took first place in 10 of the 13 events they hosted at Perkins Natatorium. East Carolina was victorious Saturday afternoon with a 164-78 win over College of Charleston to remain undefeated this year with a perfect 6-0 mark, while Marshall picked up its third win of the season Wednesday beating Radford University 197.5-85.5. On the night, the Herd won 13 of 16 events and set multiple new season bests. The Herd also won its home opener on Saturday 179-59 over Vanderbilt, while posting 47 season best times. SWIMMER OF THE WEEK (11/13) DIVER OF THE WEEK (11/13) 2007-08 WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS ATHLETES OF THE WEEK 2007-08 C-USA TOP TIMES 2008 C-USA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP C-USA RECAP (Through Meets of Nov. 11) East Carolina dominated the meet winning 17 of 26 events, including all four diving events and three of four relay races. Freshmen Jenna Stewart Was a mutli-individual event winners. Stewart claimed first place in both the 500 and 100 freestyle. Other individual event winners included: Austine Enderle (200 free), Jackie Jones (200 IM), Amanda Duncan (100 fly), Rebecca Perry (100 back) and Christie Icenhower (one and three-meter diving). The Pirates return to action on Thursday when they travel to Chapel Hill to participate in the prestigious Nike Cup. HOUSTON Senior diving captain Ginni van Katwijk and freshman Lacey Truelove helped lead the Cougars to a sweep of the top three places during a sweep of Florida International and Indian River Community College on Saturday. van Katwijk, a 2007 NCAA All-America honoree and the C-USA Co-Newcomer of the Year, finished second in both events, while Truelove earned third-place finishes. Junior Andrea Pa'lmai was another steady performer for the Cougars in the water. The Budapest, Hungary, native won two events in back-to-back meets. She captured first place in the 1,00-yard freestyle (10:16.68) to finish more than 10 seconds ahead of her closest competitor and won the 200-yard backstroke (2:06.26) at Miami (Fla.). Then Pa'lmai won the 200-yard freestyle (2:09.16) and the 100-yard butterfly (58.41) against FIU and Indian River CC. Houston will take a couple of weeks off before the divers return to action Nov. 15-17 during the Houston Diving Invitational at UH's own Campus Recreation & Wellness Center Natatorium. Swimmers won't compete again until Nov. 29-Dec. 1 at the Miami (Ohio) Invitational. MARSHALL Diver Siobhan Schuurman broke the Marshall record and set a new lifetime best in the one-meter dive with a score of 280.72, which qualifies her for the NCAA Zone Championships. The Edmonton, Alberta native also finished first in the three-meter dive with another personal best score of 238.80. Both scores set Radford pool records. Michaela Sceli turned in a strong time of 1:06.43 in the 100 breaststroke and also picked up a win in the 200-yard event, clocking in at 2:24.82. Marshall won its home opener on Saturday 179-59 over Vanderbilt, while posting 47 season best times. Sceli broke pool records in both the 200-yard and 100-yard breaststroke and her own school-record in the 100. The Herd swimmers will return to action at the Miami Invitational hosted by Miami University on Nov. 29-Dec RICE Led by Massengale's winning time of 55:09 for the 5,000-meter race in the main basin of Lake Travis, the Owls claimed five of the top nine spots to win the American Swimming Association's first-ever Open Water Collegiate National Championship. Rice finished with a team total of 43 points, a comfortable margin ahead of national runner-up the University of New Mexico (22 points). Massengale has already made a name for herself as an open water swimmer. The native of Alma, Ark., was a member of the United States national team in an international open water event in the summer of 2006. She also competed in the 2007 national team trials last month in Florida. Massengale won the 5K ahead of Korellis, who registered a time of 55:42. Fellow Rice freshman Karen Gerken was fourth while junior Carlyann Miller was sixth and Kait Chura was ninth. Rice returns to competition Nov. 15-17 at the Speedo Cup in Irvine, Calif. SMU In individual competition, the Mustangs won seven of the nine events. Katie Roberts took first in the 1000 free, touching the wall in 10:13.93, almost a full four seconds before the second-place finisher from Wyoming. Candace Blackman won the 200 free in 1:49.51, over three seconds faster than her nearest competitor. In the 50 free, Petra Klosova finished in 23.73 just 33 one-hundredths of a second faster than the second-place finisher from North Texas. Jennifer Basel clocked in at 4:24.77 in the 400 IM, almost a full two seconds ahead of Wyoming's second-place swimmer. The relays were again a strong point for the Mustangs. The 400 medley team of Carman, Devon Callaghan, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Klosova took first, finishing in 3:47.20, over eight seconds faster than Wyoming's relay team. The 400 free relay teams finished one-two. Jennifer Blackman, C. Blackman, Sascha Van den Branden and Klosova touched the wall in 3:25.98, earning first place. Basel, San Juan Cisneros, Roberts and Clark finished second, touching the wall in 3:32.26. In diving, Britney Yancey won the three-meter board with a score of 268.60, beating her nearest competitor from Wyoming by 8.0 points. The Mustangs are back in action next Friday, Saturday and Sunday as they head to College Station, Texas for the Texas A&M Invitational.
