Tulsa Wins C-USA Women's Tennis Championship

HOUSTON - The top-seeded Golden Hurricane of Tulsa won their second consecutive C-USA Women's Tennis Championship on Sunday when they ousted No. 2 Marshall, 4-1. TU fell behind early when it lost the doubles point, but rallied back to take singles victories at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 for its second women's tennis title in program history. Semifinal action of the 2008 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship began on Saturday morning with No. 1 Tulsa downing No. 4 SMU, 4-0. Match two lasted over four hours and saw No. 2 Marshall take out No. 3 Rice, 4-3. After a short rain delay, play started on Friday with top-seeded Tulsa downing No. 8 East Carolina, 5-0. The other early match-up saw No. 4 SMU outlast No. 5 Southern Miss, 4-2. In the afternoon matches, second-seeded Marshall downed No. 7 UCF, 4-3, while No. 3 Rice also battled back to take out cross-town rival No. 6 Houston, 4-3, in a match that lasted over four hours. Thursday's play began with three matches. East Carolina took out UAB 4-2, followed by UCF making quick work of Memphis in a 4-0 sweep.
