C-USA Women's Tennis Championship Match Four - Tulsa 5, East Carolina 0

HOUSTON - In Friday's first quarterfinal match of the 2008 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship at the John E. Hoff Courts on the campus of the University of Houston, top-seeded Tulsa swept No. 4 East Carolina, 5-0. The defending champions claimed the doubles point for the early lead and outlasted the Pirates in singles to get the win. Alexandra Kichoutkin and partner Carla Zabaleta won at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and teammates Thaila Diaz-Barriga and Marta Marcinkowska won at No. 2, also by a score of 8-4, to give TU its early lead. In singles, the Golden Hurricane used straight set wins to solidify the victory. Rebecca Row was off first at No. 4 after her 6-0, 6-1, win over Brooke Walter. Agostina Santoro then claimed a victory at No.6 with her 6-0, 6-0, win at No. 6 over Tamara Sachs. The final two matches finished at virtually the same time to make the final margin 5-0. Marcinkowska dispatched of Luiza Borges 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5, while Diaz-Barriga won at No. 2 over Virinia Soler, 6-1, 6-3. Tulsa improved to 19-5 with the victory and advances to the C-USA semifinals for the third consecutive year. TU will face No. 4 SMU at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. East Carolina concluded its season at 17-6 with the loss.
