IRVING, Texas - Both University of Tulsa tennis programs will represent Conference USA in the 2008 NCAA Tennis Championships after receiving the league's automatics bids in reward for winning the conference crowns on April 20. The women will face TCU in Waco, Texas, in the opening round, while the men will host Binghamton at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in their opening match.

Men's teams from Rice and SMU will also represent C-USA after they received two of the 33 at-large bids handed out to the men's event. The Owls will face TCU in Austin, Texas, while the Mustangs will face Texas A&M in Waco, Texas in the first round.

The Tulsa women are ranked No. 40 in the latest ITA rankings and carry a record of 21-5 into NCAA action. The TU men are 21-4 this spring and No. 11 in the latest poll, while the Owls are ranked No. 24 at 17-8 and the Mustangs sit at No. 40 and are 20-8 overall.

First- and second-round competition will be conducted Friday-Sunday, May 9-11, with the winner of each site advancing to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Tennis Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla., hosted by the University of Tulsa. The team championship will be held May 16-20.

The teams will play a single-elimination tournament at 16 first- and second-round sites (four teams at each site) and the finals site (16-team bracket) to determine the national champion. The matches shall be regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played best of three sets. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at eight games all in doubles and at six games all in singles.

 

 

Thirty-one conferences receive automatic qualification into the 2008 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships, with 33 at-large bids handed out.
