Marshall's Schmitt Defeats Georgia Tech's McCray to Advance to NCAA Second Round

TULSA, Okla. - Marshall University's 55th-ranked junior Kellie Schmitt defeated Georgia Tech's No. 51-ranked Whitney McCray, Wednesday, in the NCAA Singles Competition Round of 64 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center, on the campus of the University of Tulsa. The Thundering Herd's Schmitt is the lone Conference USA singles player representative in the NCAA Singles Competition.

Schmitt will advance to the NCAA Singles Round of 32 where she will challenge the 12th-ranked Megan Moulton-Levy from William and Mary. The time for this match will be set later this evening.

Schmitt and Moulton-Levy faced-off back in October at the ITA East Regional Championship Semifinal Round where Moulton-Levy defeated Schmitt, 6-1, 6-0.

Also Thursday, the 28th-ranked doubles team of Schmitt and Karolina Soor will face the top seeded and No. 7-ranked duo Amanda Granson and Melissa Mang from Duke University in the Round of 32. The time for this match will also be set later this evening. The Herd's pair will also be the lone C-USA doubles team representative in the NCAA Doubles Competition.

All matches shall be best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games will be used for all matches.
