Hlavaty made an immediate impact on her arrival to the Southern Miss volleyball team. She helped the team improve from a 6-19 record to a 15-18 record. She dominated as a freshman and lead the team in kills with 317, third on the team with blocks with 86, had two double-doubles, had 18 matches with double digit kills, and led the team in kills in eight matches.

Hlavaty is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee which provides an opportunity for student-athletes to be more involved in League issues and to enhance communication and a sense of community among the League's student-athletes. She is responsible in helping to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare, fostering a positive student-athlete image, and participating in monthly community outreach programs.
