IRVING, Texas - Marshall coach Mitch Jacobs captured his 350th career win in a thrilling 3-2 (25-11, 22-25, 25-19, 23-25, 15-8) victory over Hofstra as part of the Thundering Invitational Friday. The milestone victory for Jacobs comes in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach. Jacobs has compiled a 168-93 tally at Marshall, the most wins in program history, and owns a 350-204 overall record.

Memphis, SMU, Southern Miss, Tulsa and UCF also picked up invitational wins on Friday. The Tigers landed 19 aces for a 3-1 victory over Illinois-Chicago. The 19 aces are the most for Memphis since serving up a record 23 versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2005 and ranks as the fifth most in C-USA single match history.

The Mustangs notched victories over Texas Tech and Texas State while hosting the Doubletree Invitational at Moody Coliseum. SMU now sports a flawless 5-0 record.

C-USA VOLLEYBALL SHOOTING STARS (Friday, Sept. 3)
• Elizabeth Herman connected for a match-high 21 kills and head coach Mitch Jacobs picked up his 350th career win in a thrilling 3-2 (25-11, 22-25, 25-19, 23-25 and 15-8) victory over Hofstra as part of the Thundering Invitational. The milestone victory for Jacobs comes in his 18th season as a collegiate head coach and owns a 350-204 overall record. • Memphis served up a season-high 19 aces and the Tigers got a combined 42 kills from Altrese Hawkins, Vesna Jelic and Marija Jovanovic in a 3-1 rout of Illinois-Chicago in the UIC 2010 Invite. The trio of Hawkins, Jelic and Jovanovic finished with 10 more kills than the Flames total team on Friday. Hawkins and Jovanovic connected for 15 kills each, while Jelic downed 12. The Tiger's 19 aces are the most since serving up a record 23 aces versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2005 and the fifth most in C-USA single match history.
• Senior Kathryn Wilkerson produced her third double-double of the season with 12 kills and 10 digs in SMU's 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) victory over Texas Tech in its first match of the SMU Doubletree Classic. Wilkerson converted on a career-best 12 of 21 swings (.571 attack percentage) against the Red Raiders. Behind 18 Dana Powell kills, SMU capped off the day with a 3-1 win over Texas State, 3-1. Powell notched her third double-double of the season with 14 digs to match the 18 kills.
• Junior Ashley Mell tallied a season-high 24 kills as Southern Miss fought back from a 2-1 deficit to defeat Georgia Southern 3-2 (25-13, 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-11) in the opening match of the MT Blue Raider Bash. Lisa Knecht recorded 20 digs with Mell adding 10 for her third double-double of the season.
• Junior Kristin Fisher led UCF with 17 kills, while sophomore Evija Vilde shined for the Knights' offense with 14 kills and a .524 attack percentage as the team swept UNC Wilmington, 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-17), in its opening match of the UNC Wilmington/Courtyard by Marriott Tournament.
• UAB split its opening matches of the Bama Bash Friday with a loss to Furman and a nightcap win over Toledo, a team that upset 12th-ranked Michigan last weekend. Jordan McDonald and Sam Serley paced the offensive attack for the day with 20 and 19 kills, respectively, over the two matches. Libero Heather Thomas led all players in digs in both contests, finishing with 42 on the day.
• Junior Jackie Varnum led East Carolina with a career-high 12 kills while redshirt sophomore Kelly Derby picked up a personal-best 11 blocks in the opening match of the Delaware Invitational. ECU took a 1-0 lead against Rutgers, but could not hold off the Scarlet Knights, falling 3-1 (25-13, 15-25, 18-25, 18-25).
• Tulsa swept Washington State, 25-12, 25-16, 25-15, Friday evening to open the Powerade/Asics Challenge at San Francisco's War Memorial Gym.
• Bridget Logan led UTEP with 11 kills, but the Miners dropped a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-13) match to I-10 rival NM State at the Pan American Center.
• Senior Lucy Charuk led Houston with 12 kills but the Cougars lost a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) match to No. 13 Florida State in opening day of the Houston Invitational.
• Izabela Grot paced Tulane with 10 kills, but the Green Wave dropped a 3-0 match to Lipscomb in the University of Pittsburg Invitational.
• Four the fourth consecutive match, outside hitter Ashleigh McCord posted double-digit kills with 15 but Rice suffered a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-15) loss to host Pepperdine at the Asics Classic in Firestone Fieldhouse on the Pepperdine campus.
